First in Kabuki history: Kabuki is realized in a virtual space where real and virtual are fused

As a commemorative work for the opening of the Daikanyama Metaverse Studio, live streaming and archived distribution of “META Kabuki Genji Memories” was performed in a virtual space for the first time in Kabuki history.

This work is a Kabuki work created based on the immortal masterpiece “The Tale of Genji,” using virtual production (a shooting method that combines 3DCG background/VFX with images taken in the real world in real time), which is the first attempt at Kabuki. By synthesizing a virtual background that accurately reproduces the Heian period with live action images of Kabuki actors in real time, it creates an immersive feeling as if that actor is in the Heian period. Kabuki actors Nakamura Ichitaro and Nakamura Hayato will challenge this new level of Kabuki performance. Nakamura Ichitaro plays 5 different roles of women, and also works as a general director. Nakamura Hayato took on the role of Hikaru Genji for the first time.

Furthermore, the staff of Studio E&H Production established in 2021 by Park Seong-hoo (Park Seong-hu), who is known as the director of “GARO-VANISHING LINE-,” “GOH,” and “Jujutsu Kaisen,” participated as directors. “Kabuki x virtual production technology x anime production” has become a new type of entertainment.

Hikaru Genji is 17 years old. While struggling to pass by his wife, Aoi no Ue, he swings and is at the mercy of his widow, Rokujo Gosho, and the pure, innocent and straightforward Yugao... Nakamura Hayato is invited to the role of Hikaru Genji, and Nakamura Ichitaro plays the five roles of Aoi no Ue, Rokujo Gosho, Yugao, Fujitsubo (voice only), and Gyokusan (voice only).
