We have developed in-house software that can embed images into 360-degree videos

May 2016

When shooting a 360-degree video or a 360-degree still image, everything is reflected in the east, west, north, and south, and even objects that were not originally intended to be taken and even the photographer himself are reflected. In that case, it is common to apply blur by post-processing or make the image invisible by covering it from above. However, if an image is embedded directly into a 360-degree video, the image will be displayed in a distorted form when viewed as a VR image.
In order to display an image in its original form, it is necessary to implement it with software such as Unity or KrPano, and it is not compatible on platforms that post videos such as YouTube or PanoPlaza MOVIE. Therefore, Kadinche developed production software that can be applied to the original 360-degree video by converting embedded images by considering image distortion when converted to VR images in advance. This technology makes it possible to embed any image at any position in a 360-degree video, and it is now possible to provide 360-degree content in line with customer requests.

I would like to introduce how it changes when a normal image is embedded and when distortion is taken into account when converting to VR images.

Embed regular images

First, let's take a look at how a normal image is displayed in a VR image when embedded.

The following images have been prepared this time as images to be embedded.

Here is an image just after embedding it. In this state, it has a beautiful circle and square shape.

Now, let's upload this image to Panoplaza Movie and browse it.
The results are displayed in a distorted form as shown in the image below, and the original shape of a circle or square has collapsed.

Embed images in consideration of VR images

Next, let's embed an image created by considering distortion when converted to VR images.
Below is an image of it. This image was created with software developed independently by our company.
I don't think it will be displayed very properly in this state.

I'll try uploading this image to panoplaza movie.
Then I was able to confirm that it was displayed in a beautiful circle or square shape.

It is now possible to embed images that suit the purpose

How was it? In 360-degree videos uploaded to Youtube, there was content where corporate logos etc. were inserted directly below or next to the video, but it is not easy to place images in other positions.
With the software developed this time, images can be attached in a natural state to various positions other than directly below, so it is possible to provide content more suited to the purpose.
