Demonstration experiment of the space experience “Yokai Glasses: Guide to Another World” using a mixed reality device at the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall

September 2022

Kadinche Co., Ltd. will conduct a demonstration experiment of the exhibition guide content “Yokai Glasses: A Guide to Another World (Guide)” using mixed reality (mixed reality, hereinafter MR) headsets, at the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall (Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture) under the cooperation of the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall (Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture) from 2022/9/23 (Friday) to 25 (Sun). Customers who visit during the same period will be loaned out free of charge headsets and will be able to experience the “Yokai Glasses Guide to Another World” inside the facility.

At the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Hall, which will be open for 20 years next year, you can experience the upbringing of manga artist Mizuki Shigeru and the worldview of his work, but by using “Yokai Glasses,” which will be rented out for a limited time this time, you will be able to see things hidden in everyday life that cannot be seen with the human eye. It is an interactive experiential in-house guide where you can tour and experience the world of Shigeru Mizuki in a space, listening to aspects of Mr. Mizuki that you still don't know, and being able to feel close to the existence of a different world that you haven't seen until now. The guide is Backbeard, who demonstrates his erudition as a general of monsters, and guides you around the building.

KEY FEATURES:
・Spatial audio guide: An audio guide that automatically plays when you approach the exhibition
・Extended Information Popup: Display spatial information about monsters in Yo-kai Cave
・Different space sharing experience (shooting): Commemorative photo of spatial content at Yo-kai Square

The MR headset uses Microsoft HoloLens 2. The HoloLens 2 is a self-contained holographic computer equipped with Windows that realizes mixed reality, and by attaching it to the head, it is possible to recognize real space and arrange and display 2D/3D objects in space without hands. Also, applications that operate within HoloLens 2 use the Immersal SDK, Immersal's VPS (Visual Positioning System), as self-position estimation technology. With this technology, it is possible to recognize locations and exhibits in the museum with high accuracy.
The purpose of this demonstration experiment is to verify its usefulness and return on investment by creating content and developing an MR system as a next-generation guide system that can be used in indoor exhibition spaces such as memorials and museums, and for visitors to experience it.
